Vintage bus to hit the streets of Warrington
Warrington’s Own Buses is to be running a vintage bus service, between Warrington and Lymm, in association with the Lymm Historic Transport day on Sunday 24 June 2018.
Departing hourly, the 6A service will be operating via Stockton Heath and Grappenhall Road where passengers can board and alight with the fares being issued by a conductor. Unfortunately, contactless and Touch & Go cards cannot be accepted for payment due to the vintage ticket machine predating the age of smart cards! Concession cards, however, are valid.
A full timetable can be seen below:
For the benefit of any enthusiasts, the vehicle which shall be used for the service is Leyland PD2/40 BED729C (148) which was new to Warrington Borough Transport in April 1965 and has one owner since new. The vehicle is unique in the respect that it was part of a batch which were specially built for Warrington, at a more narrow width than standard models to navigate the old layout in Warrington town centre.
We (with special thanks to our engineers!) have worked hard to offer this service to our customers and the town, so please pop along with a trip into nostalgia…even if it is just for a day!
