School Buses FAQs

Whether you’re a parent, student, or guardian, here you’ll find quick answers to common questions about routes, schedules, buses, and more—so you can feel confident and prepared every school day.

Where can I find more information on school buses?
This can be found here on our website, but also on the Warrington Borough Council website.  In addition, many different operators do school buses so please do check with them (e.g. MD Link, Hiltons, Orion, Mayne and others).

Who funds school buses?
School buses tend to be funded by the local authority and/or the school/college themselves.  Bus operators do not tend to fund these buses, which are often not commercially viable.

Can there be additionally capacity or buses put onto my school/college bus?  E.g. a bigger bus or more buses.
The services are commissioned by either the school/college or the local authorities and so this would be something to enquire with them about.  Commercial viability of school buses can be an issue.

Can my child use ordinary service buses?
Yes and details can be found on our website as well as our network map.  An Annual Touch & Go pass is often the cheapest way to do this.

Why is there not a dedicated school bus from my area to the particular school I need?
The services are commissioned by either the school/college or the local authorities and so this would be something to enquire with them about. School buses are often based on traditional patterns and overall demand.

Why does the £1 fare cap not apply to my particular school/college bus?
Dedicated school/college buses sometimes have different funding arrangements and so the fare scheme offer may not apply to them.  Fares on school buses vary from £1.00 to £2.20, but each service is different and some have a flat fare.  You can pay on our buses by cash, contactless, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
